| Most people assume that because cats don't play
fetch they don't want or need to be played with. This is untrue. Cat's need
exercise and mental stimulation that comes from playing. By nature, cats
are hunters and they enjoy chasing things. Creating games that allow them
to chase will result in excited healthy cats.
You could make a fishing pole type apparatus that has other toys attached to the end. Mimic movements of birds or insects flying, allowing your cat to catch its prey now and again will thrill them and keep their interest. Any idea that allows your cat to interact with you by running, pouncing, stalking and chasing is a good means of cat entertainment. Consider toys such as a plastic Easter egg, ping-pong balls, crumpled tin foil or paper, or a film canister with something that rattles inside it. For a cat, a paper bag or box with holes in it can be entertaining. Cats just love to play with almost anything. Keep in mind for safety reasons that cat's should not be left alone with a ball of yarn or a single strand of string. They could not only get tangled up in it, they could swallow it causing intestinal problems or even death. |
